A rubric is a scoring tool that explicitly defines the performance expectations for an assignment or piece of work. Rubrics divide the assigned work into components and provides clear descriptions of the characteristics of the work associated with each component, usually at varying levels of mastery. Rubrics are used to outline consistent criteria for grading, and allows students to evaluate and self-assess their own work.
