PERIOD 6 Mondays/Tuesdays 2:30 - 3:15pm Thursday 1:30 - 2:55pm Fridays 2:10 – 2:50pm The JAMS Wind Ensemble offers instruction in advanced ensemble technique as well as individual musicianship skills. Students are strongly encouraged to provide their own instruments, since school instruments are limited and reserved for students learning a new instrument. This group focuses on the performance of traditional band literature as well as the practice of music theory and music history. Performances include the annual Fall and Spring Concerts and the all-district performance Stairway of the Stars.

Prerequisites:
- At least three years previous band experience (or discretion of directors)
- Proficiency of the following major scales (2 octaves for woodwinds, 1 octave for brass and percussion):
- Concert C, F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, D-flat, G, D, A, E, B
- Chromatic
- Understanding of intonation and basic pitch tendencies
- Understanding of sixteenth, all dotted, and syncopated rhythms
- Understanding of 2/2 (cut time) and 6/8 time signatures
- Advanced sight-reading
- Private lessons highly recommended
- Grade level: 6 - 8
