Concert Band

Fridays 10:20 - 11:00am

The JAMS Concert Band emphasis is placed on intermediate ensemble techniques as well as individual musicianship skills. Students are strongly encouraged to provide their own instruments, since school instruments are limited and generally reserved for students who are learning a new instrument. Performances include the annual Fall and Spring Concerts. Weekly coaching sessions are conducted for every section of the Concert Band to supplement rehearsal instruction.

Prerequisites:

• At least two years previous band experience (or discretion of directors)
• Proficiency of the following major scales:
  •    Concert C, F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat – one octave (second octave optional) with proper tone and technique
  • Chromatic
• Ability to judge basic intonation – flat, sharp
• Understanding of whole, half, quarter, eighth and dotted half rhythms
• Understanding of 4/4, 2/4, and 3/4 time signatures
• Basic sight-reading
• Private lessons recommended
• Grade level: 6 - 8
