The JAMS Chamber Orchestra is the advanced level string ensemble.  Students are strongly encouraged to provide their own instruments, since school instruments are limited and reserved for students learning a new instrument. This group focuses on the performance of string orchestra literature as well as the practice of music theory and music history. Performances include the annual Fall and Spring Concerts and the all-district performance Stairway of the Stars.

Prerequisites:

• At least two years previous string experience (or discretion of directors)
• Proficiency of the following major scales (2 octaves):
  • C, G, D, A, E, B
  • F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, D-flat
• Basic tuning abilities using pegs and fine tuners
• Understanding of sixteenth, all dotted, and syncopated rhythms
• Understanding of 4/4, 2/4, and 3/4 time signatures
• Advanced sight-reading
• Private lessons highly recommended
• Grade level: 6 - 8
