Founded in 2000 by a high school teacher in the Bronx, DonorsChoose.org is an online charity organization that supports public schools from across the country with much-needed materials and experiences for students. With a gifted donation of any amount, the JAMS Instrumental Music program will be able to continue providing high quality experiences for our young musicians.
2019-20 DonorsChoose Projects
"'Resident' Cellos: Providing Access!" We will maintain a set of cellos that will be used exclusively for in-class rehearsals and after school practice sessions. These "resident" cellos will always be available on-site for students who cannot transport their instrument to/from school.
"String Bassists: Take a Bow!" Please help our students with the necessary supplies to be the best string musicians possible!
"Chevron: Fuel Our Music Program!" Please help supply all of our musicians with essential accessories and materials, including shoulder rests (violin/viola), endpin anchors (cello), rosin (all strings), cleaning rod (flute), cork grease (clarinet/saxophone), tuning slide grease (all brass), mouthpiece brush (all winds).
"Chevron: Fuel My Woodwind Musicians!" We hope to support our clarinet and saxophone students with high quality mouthpieces, reeds, and ligatures. FUNDED on October 4, 2019! Thank you to Chevron for fully-funding this project!
"Nature's Music: Percussion Instrument Sound Effects" We would like to give our students the unique opportunity to experience repertoire that incorporates percussion "toys" which mimic sounds found in nature, such as an ocean drum and a bird whistle. FUNDED on September 23, 2019! Thank you to our community as well as Launchpad for Classrooms for their matching donation!
"Heavy Metal: A New Tuba for our Tubist!" In order to "grow" young tuba players, we need a 3/4-size tuba that would accommodate our more petite musicians! FUNDED on September 20, 2019! Thank you to the Yamaha Corporation of America for fully-funding this project!
The JAMS Instrumental Music Program Featured in Yamaha/DonorsChoose Video!
During the 2018-19 school year, the JAMS Instrumental Music program received project funding from DonorsChoose. With many generous donations from our JAMS community, along with those from the Chevron Corporation and the Yamaha Corporation of America, our projects were fully funded, thus benefitting our string, woodwind, brass, and percussion students with essential materials and equipment needed.
Our DonorsChoose projects specifically caught the eye of the Yamaha Corporation, which is one of the world’s foremost multinational conglomerates with a wide range of products, predominantly musical instruments. Yamaha is also widely-recognized as a leader and advocate in the field of music education through their commitment to professional development opportunities and artistic music collaborations for music educators at the local, state, and national levels.
Yamaha invited the JAMS Instrumental Music program to be featured in a short video that emphasizes the importance of music education in our schools. Please click on the Yamaha logo below to enjoy the video!
