In conjunction with the SMMUSD technology initiative (“21st Century Classroom”) for all curricular subject areas, all instrumental music students will be given weekly (or semi-weekly) assignments using the SmartMusic interactive software program, and/or preparing video recordings uploaded to Google Classroom. Students will have the option of using personal computers/recording devices or school computers/equipment.
Student assignments (and assessments) will be performance-based, and may include the following items:
Rhythm exercises/clapping and counting
Solo excerpts from ensemble repertoire
In late September, all students will receive a free SmartMusic account to use at school AND at home. (Internet service is required as well as the Google Chrome browser.) Stay tuned for upcoming information!
All musicians will be enrolled into a "digital" Google classroom for their respective band or orchestra where multi-media assignments will be issued, collected (uploaded), and graded.
Google provides email notifications for parents/guardians so they can stay involved and help to motivate their students. Parents/guardians will be able to sign-up to receive daily or weekly email digests of their student’s progress, upcoming work and class announcements. Teachers will be able to invite parents/guardians directly for linking and notifications.
